VERY IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE YOU REGISTER AND SELECT YOUR PERFORMANCE TIME.

As in the past, registration will be done electronically.

To make it easy for people to signup for our festivals, you will need to create a MICCA Account that you will use for the Concert & Choral Festivals and also the Solo & Ensemble Festival registration that begins in the Spring.

When you first enter our registration area you will be asked if you are not yet registered. EVERYONE must create an account their first time in. We recommend you choose something easy to remember for your username and password as you will be using this account for all MICCA sponsored registrations in the future. Once your account is created you will then be sent to a Congratulations page with a link so you can login and register your groups.

Your Concert AND Choral registrations will take place in the same area. When you login you will see your CONSOLE on the right hand side of the screen. Here you will find the links to Modify Your Contact Info, in case your phone or e-mail changes for example, Register New Band, Register New Chorus, and your Log Out links.

Once you have groups registered, you will see them show up in your Console area on the right. By clicking on the group names you will be taken to the information you have submitted for each of these groups. You can change any information about these groups at any time, such as number of students, grades involved, or if you will be attending the Stars @ Symphony performance. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE TIME YOU HAVE CHOSEN FOR YOUR GROUP ONCE IT IS SELECTED! In order to print out your PRINCIPAL FORM click on your groups name in the Console area and you will see the Principal Form link on the right.

Like before, you must mail in your Check or PO to the Festival Chairperson before you will be able to select your performance times. Once received, MICCA will then e-mail you that your groups have been "unlocked". The Select Time link will now show up in your groups Console. To select your groups performance time click on your groups name in the Console area and then click on the Slect Time link on the right.

Times will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that registration does not become official until a purchase order or check and form with principal's signature is received by the Festival Chairperson.

Things to be considered:
A) You cannot change the time once you choose it.
B) If you have more than one group, you must put a minimum of three groups between each one to accommodate the clinic, the photograph, and the opportunity to warm-up.
C) The shaded boxes on the Venue Selection page are the time slots that will have an orchestral judge available. If you want to be sure you are going to be judged by an orchestral judge, please select one of these times. Remember, time slot selection is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
D) Elementary and middle school ensembles are not required to attend the added Elementary/Middle School venue at King Philip Regional High School. King Philip is for ONLY elementary and middle school groups.

Please note: If you are running a MAC you must use Safari, Firefox, Mozilla or Netscape.

This years festival will be held at Foxboro High School, Hopkinton High School, Lexington High School, Greenfield High School and Bellingham High School. The Elementary and Middle School location will be at King Philip Regional High School.

Cost to participate in our Concert Festival is $300.00 with late registration fee being $350.00.

Note to Directors:

It is the purpose of the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductor's Association to encourage and support high performance standards by High School, Middle School, and Elementary School musical organizations. MICCA Festival programs encourage the improvement of a group's musical standards by providing musical adjudication by highly qualified adjudicators. Attendance at a festival also affords organizations an opportunity to hear performances by other groups and experience the presentation of a wide variety of musical literature.

Participating groups are evaluated on the merit of their performance, and awards presented are based on a medals system. Groups achieving a score in the highest rating bracket receive a Gold Medal; groups in the second bracket receive a Silver Medal; groups in the third bracket receive a Bronze Medal; groups in the fourth bracket receive a Medal of Merit; and groups in the fifth bracket receive a Festival Participation Medal.

Ensemble Workshops
Each ensemble will progress to a workshop room following the adjudicated stage performance. At this time, an adjudicator will work with your students on the pieces they have just performed. (Guests may observe as space permits). The Ensemble Workshop is possibly the most valuable aspect of the Concert Festival.

Performance Requirements
Visit the Required List page for an explanation of a required piece. MICCA has adopted the NBA Selected Music List for Bands 8th edition: The list is graded so that directors might have benchmarks to measure the growth of their groups, not for festival classification. MICCA provides a link to NBA to register for membership and/or just to purchase the booklet. If you wish to know if a piece you are considering is on the list while you wait to acquire it please use the Contact Us Form and a member of MICCA will respond to you.

Each band must program three selections within the allowed stage time of 30 minutes. One selection must be a march. (There are no restrictions concerning the march and the director need not refer to the MICCA graded list for this selection). One selection must be chosen from the Required Music List, and the third selection is left to the director's discretion. We trust that directors will choose festival quality repertoire. Failure to follow the performance requirements will result in disqualification.

Directors who are planning to perform in the Concert Festival must consider the following:

  • 1. The program must include a march, a selection from either the National Band Association listing or the MICCA Grade 1 list, and a piece of the director's choice.
  • 2. Please keep in mind that the entire piece must be performed unless otherwise indicated in the MICCA listing. MICCA will not honor, for example, performing a movement of a larger work (such as mvmt 2 of Holst’s Second Suite) as fulfillment of the MICCA requirement.
  • 3. Some pieces may be permanently out of print. Directors are advised to contact members of the Executive Board, who may assist you in acquiring these pieces.

Orchestras will also perform three pieces of the director's choice for either full orchestra or strings alone. There is no prescribed list for orchestra. MICCA believes that orchestra's should demonstrate a variety of styles in the programming and recommends against a single work of three or more movements.

Three copies of each score with all measures numbered will be necessary at the festival performance. Full scores are required of each of the two graded selections and a full score to the March is desired, but a condensed score will be accepted.
