Please be aware that if your ensemble receives a "Gold Medal" rating at the Concert or Choral Festival, you are not guaranteed your first choice for the Stars at Symphony concerts. Despite our best efforts, we simply may not have enough spots available to accommodate everyone. Should this happen, we will resort to a lottery system which may require you to perform at an alternate location. Although all groups will be offered a time slot at Symphony Hall or Mechanics Hall it is likely that several groups will not receive their first choice. Also, please be aware that in general, the choral groups are in the morning at Symphony Hall and the first performances may be as early as 8am.
MICCA, with the support of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, will sponsor its tenth annual "Stars at Symphony" gold medal showcases in the spring of 2008. Ensembles that earn a gold medal rating at the 2008 MICCA Concert and Choral Festivals will be invited to perform at either Symphony Hall in Boston on May 3, 2008, or at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on April 13, 2008. Directors of gold medal ensembles will have their choice of performing at either venue. MICCA and the Boston Symphony Orchestra provide this exciting opportunity free of charge. There is no registration fee. A compact disc recording of each group will be created and distributed to the director immediately following their group's performance. There is no admission charge for audience members.
MICCA's first "Stars at Symphony" took place in 1999 at Symphony Hall. The response was so overwhelming that the necessity to expand to a second venue became immediately apparent. Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood opened its doors to MICCA in 2000. Then due to construction constraints, we moved the second venue to Mechanics Hall in 2005. All venues have been operating at capacity since.
